Photographer Oscar Thompson is a fifth-generation Floridian, born in Ft. Myers and raised in Everglades City and Immokalee. Both his father and grandfather were guides in Southwest Florida. While other youngsters were trooping off to camp in the mid-1950's, young Thompson was spending summers with the Seminole Indians, gaining an appreciation for Florida's wildlife and natural habitats.

In the mid-1960's, Thompson joined the Navy, where he photographed with the UDT2-22 Squadron of the Seal Team, assigned to the USS Rushmore in the Amphibious Forces.

A graduate of the Winona School of Photography in Indiana, Thompson has received numerous accolades for his work, including six images in the Professional Photographers of America Loan Collection. In 1994 his image "Blues in the Night" scored an unheard of perfect 100 at the Southeastern Professional Photographers Association Annual Convention of the Florida Professional Photographers Association.

Today he is busy with architectural, portrait, and Florida landscape photography. His assignments take him to many locations throughout the country on assignment for magazine and book publishers, decorators and developers. Thompson still finds time to help others experience the Everglades on Muckabouts at the Big Cypress Gallery, and to capture those quiet images of Florida he learned to cherish while living with the Seminoles.
